Abstract

In early childhood education, there is one fundamental aspect in cognitive development, namely thinking ability. Children aged 4-5 years are in the pre-operational stage which is very sensitive to the stimulation given so that concrete and interesting learning media are needed and are in accordance with the needs of children. This phase of child development is very sensitive and significant to their intellectual development. Puzzle games are a very potential media in developing children's cognitive abilities. This study uses a quantitative method with a quasi-experimental type or quasi-experiment using an experimental pretest-posttest design. The research subjects consisted of 30 children aged 4-5 years, Data collection techniques used observation and questionnaires using a Likert scale. Data analysis used descriptive and inferential analysis using SPSS. The results of this study indicate that simple scientific puzzle games have a significant effect on children's cognitive abilities, with a t value = -46.9 and Sig. (2-tailed) <0.001. so it can be concluded that simple scientific puzzle games can improve the cognitive abilities of children aged 4-5 years
